MOSCOW, October 24 (RIA Novosti) – Swedish Navy stated Friday, that the alleged foreign submarine, which was hunted for in Stockholm archipelago waters, is very likely to be a mini-submarine.
Swedish Navy's Rear Admiral Anders Grenstad said at a press conference, that at least one underwater craft was detected by the Armed Forces.
"It was a mini-submarine, not a submarine," Grenstad specified.
The Navy also said "the information will be analyzed and details about the incident will be reported later on".
Sweden began the search off the coast of Stockholm on October 19 after receiving information, reportedly from a civilian, about the presence of an unknown underwater object in the region, suspected to be a foreign submarine.
Swedish media reports suggested that the object sought by Sweden could be a damaged Russian submarine, but the Russian Defense Ministry later denied the claims.
On October 22, the Swedish Armed Forces said the search for an alleged foreign submarine is entering a "new phase" and will continue for as long as necessary.
The new phase of the operation entailed the relocation of some of the search party onto land, with crews of the vessels remaining on high alert.
The Swedish Navy has halted its search for an alleged foreign submarine in the country's territorial waters near Stockholm on October 24, one week after the beginning of the operation.
