MOSCOW, October 25 (RIA Novosti) - Canada will send over 300 observers to Ukraine to monitor the country's upcoming parliamentary elections, a statement on Canada's Foreign Ministry's Twitter account said.

"Canada has a long history of supporting Ukrainian elections and is proud to be contributing more than 300 observers for Sunday's elections," the statement published Friday said.

The early parliamentary elections in Ukraine will be held this Sunday. Ukrainians will cast their votes for the 424 members of the country's parliament – the Verkhovna Rada. Of the 424 seats 225 are to be won by party lists, with the election threshold set at five percent, while the other 199 seats will be decided by single-member constituencies.

The upcoming Sunday parliamentary election in Ukraine follows the one which was held in October 2012. On August 26, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko dissolved the Verkhovna Rada, declaring an early parliamentary vote. He said that the composition of the parliament elected under the presidency of the ousted Viktor Yanukovych was no longer suitable for the existing political situation.
