MOSCOW, October 25 (RIA Novosti) - A coal mine accident in China has killed 16 people and injured 11, a local watchdog, Xinjiang Administration of Coal Mine Safety, said Saturday.
According to Xinhua news agency the watchdog said the coal mine collapsed in Urumqi, the capital of China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, on Friday night while 33 workers were in the mine, of which six managed to escape.
The injured workers have been hospitalized as the cause of the accident is being investigated according to the safety watchdog. The name of the coal mine has not been revealed.
According to Xinhua, a previous coal mine accident in the same region occurred on October 13 in the Xinjiang Tianshan Coal Mine which caved-in trapping workers inside. Nine of the 10 miners died. On October 7, three miners were killed from a gas outburst at the Xintian Coal Mine in Qianxi County, Guizhou Province, where 134 people were working at the time.
