KIEV, October 25 (RIA Novosti) - Ukraine's Central Election Commission hopes to make preliminary results of the October 26 parliamentary elections public by late Wednesday or early Thursday, its chief said Saturday.

Speaking at a meeting with European Parliament's election observation mission, Mykhaylo Okhendovsky said he hoped to get "complete preliminary results" of the parliamentary polls "approximately late on Wednesday, October 29, or early on Thursday, October 30," as cited by the Ukrainian news agency UNN.

Meanwhile, Ukraine's Service for Special Communication and Information Protection said on Facebook Saturday that Commission's official website had been targeted for distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks. It vowed to keep the webpage running throughout the elections period by having secondary resources that are a mirror of the main page.

On Sunday, Ukrainians will go to polls to vote in new parliament members. The country's parliament, called the Verkhovna Rada, is composed of 450 lawmakers, elected in universal, equal and direct elections by secret ballot every five years.

Crimea, a former Ukrainian republic that refused to recognize the legitimacy of the new authorities in Kiev after the February coup and signed a reunification deal with Russia on March 18, will not take part in the elections.

Authorities in Ukraine's breakaway regions of Donetsk and Luhansk said they would not go to polls on October 26 or on December 7, which is a separate election day stipulated by Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko's law that also granted them a special status.
