WASHINGTON, October 26 (RIA Novosti) - Five people have been injured after an explosion at an industrial facility in Sarnia, Ontario, the local police said.
"Fire at industrial accident at Veolia is under control. 5 injuries 1 being transferred to London Ont. Hospital," Sarnia Police said in its official twitter account.
According to the first media release by Sarnia Police, the explosion at Veolia ES Canada Industrial Services Inc. on Scott Road in Sarnia occurred around 2:41 p.m. local time (18:41 GMT).
On arrival at the scene, "emergency services personnel were confronted with an active fire and injuries."
Five injured persons were transported to Bluewater Health facility in Sarnia and one of them was subsequently air-lifted to London Ontario Hospital.
"Sarnia Fire Services brought the fire under control quickly and investigators from the Ministry of Labour and Sarnia Police Services are currently on scene conducting the initial investigation into the cause of the fire," the media release said.
This is not the first major emergency situation in Canada this week. On Wednesday morning, the 32-year old Canadian citizen Michael Zehaf-Bibeau shot a soldier guarding the National War Memorial in Ottawa and then proceeded to Parliament Hill's Center Block where he was killed in a shooting with a policeman.
