KIEV, October 26 (RIA Novosti) - About 10,000 Ukrainian servicemen, taking part in the military operation in the Donetsk and Luhansk Regions, can participate in the elections to the Verkhovna Rada, the head of the Central Election Commission Mykhailo Ohendovsky stated Sunday.
"In the Donetsk and Luhansk Regions voter lists at polling stations today include about 10,000 servicemen," Ohendovsky said at a press briefing on Sunday.
He added that in general about 25,000 soldiers changed their place of voting and were included in the voter lists.
Earlier, the Verkhovna Rada failed to adopt a law to regulate the procedure of voting for participants of the military operation in Ukraine's eastern regions.
In April, Kiev launched a military operation in Ukraine’s southeast in response to the local residents' refusal to recognize the new Ukrainian government that came to power as a result of a February coup.
The polls have opened for Ukrainians to vote in 424 members of parliament — 225 of them from party lists and 199 in single-candidate constituencies. The electoral threshold is five percent.
