KIEV, October 26 (RIA Novosti) - President Poroshenko said Sunday that his bloc would form the core of the parliamentary majority coalition in the newly-elected Ukrainian parliament.
Poroshenko also said he invited all political forces that will form the new Verkhovna Rada to join the parliamentary majority, but stressed that the People's Front, led by Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk, will be the key ally of his bloc in future parliament coalition.
The president said the coalition talks would be completed in ten days to coincide with the official announcement of the election's outcome.
"Ten days allowed by law to announce the [election] results are enough to complete talks on the candidature for prime minister, coalition, and Rada leaders," Poroshenko said.
"I, as president, will put forward candidature for prime minister proposed by the coalition," he added.
Early parliamentary elections were held in Ukraine on Sunday. Ukrainians went to the polls to vote in 423 members of parliament - 225 of them from party lists and 198 in single-candidate constituencies. The electoral threshold has been set at five percent. Voting results for the candidates elected by party lists and from single-candidate constituencies are expected to be announced on Wednesday.
The Petro Poroshenko Bloc is a Ukrainian liberal-conservative party, previously known as Solidarity party, which was set up by the current President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, in 2001.
The party's main objective is helping Poroshenko implement his election promises, such as furthering Ukraine's aim to become a member of the European Union, enhancing social protection, ending corruption and establishing energy independence.
The People's Front party also stands for Ukraine's integration into the European Union, in particular, the establishment of a visa-free travel regime between Ukraine and the European Union. In addition, the party calls for economic, fiscal, judicial, and prosecution reforms. Arseniy Yatsenyuk heads the party's Political Council, while Oleksandr Turchynov is the head of its central headquarters.
