PARIS, October 27 (RIA Novosti) — Russia has received an invitation from the South African Navy to participate in a shipbuilding tender for the delivery of a survey vessel, the deputy director of Russia's Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation told RIA Novosti on Monday.
"In September 2014, an invitation was received to participate in a tender for the engineering and delivery of a survey vessel for the Navy of the Republic of South Africa," Anatoly Punchuk, who is also heading the Russian delegation at the Euronaval-2014 exhibition in Paris, said.
He added that despite limited financial resources, a number of sub-Saharan African countries (Angola, Mozambique, Congo) are interested in acquiring Russian missile and patrol boats of various modifications.
"There are certain perspectives in the implementation of projects in joint engineering and the construction of ships and boats," Punchuk said.
The heads of Rosoboronexport, Russia's state arms exporter, and the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation earlier announced their intention to expand military cooperation through non-traditional partners, including the BRICS countries.
