KIEV, October 27 (RIA Novosti) – Leader of Ukraine's ultra-nationalist Right Sector, Dmytro Yarosh, has made it to the country's parliament, the Central Election Commission said Monday.
Yarosh gathered 29,75 percent of the votes in the Dnipropetrovsk region, according to the preliminary results with 92.35 of votes in the region counted.
The result comes unexpectedly, as the far-right Right Sector, along with the Communist Party and right-wing Svoboda, were believed to lose seats in the elections.
Ukraine held early parliamentary elections on October 26. Ukraine's Central Election Commission said the turnout stood at 52.42 percent.
Currently, with more than 55 percent of ballots counted, the People's Front has garnered 21.58 percent of the popular vote, and the country's current president's Petro Poroshenko's Bloc is close behind with 21.41 percent, according to the Central Election Commission. The parties are now considering creating a coalition.
The two leading parties are followed by the Samopomich (Self-Help) party headed by mayor of Lviv Andriy Sadovy with 11.1 percent of the votes, the Opposition Bloc with 9.82 percent, Oleh Lyashko's nationalist Radical Party with 7.38 percent of the votes, and Batkivshchyna (Fatherland) party headed by former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko with 5.69 percent.
