MOSCOW, October 27 (RIA Novosti) — Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Brazil's President Dilma Rousseff on re-election, the Kremlin's press service said Monday.
"Mr Putin also said he values highly the attention Ms Rousseff gives to the strategic partnership between the two countries and confirmed his readiness to continue constructive dialogue, active joint work to take bilateral cooperation in different areas even further, and continue cooperation within the UN, G20, BRICS group and other multilateral organisations," the Kremlin's said in a statement published on its website.
According to the Brazilian Superior Electoral Court's data with 99.2 percent of ballots counted, Rousseff won the runoff that took place on Sunday with the majority of 51.56 percent of votes. Her opponent, Aecio Neves, gained 48.44 percent.
Rousseff has received the support of about 70 percent of voters from the country's northeast with the most significant victory achieved in the Minas Gerais state, where Rousseff was governor between 2003 and 2010.
Neves, who has enjoyed strong support among Brazil's middle and upper class, has already conceded defeat and congratulated Rousseff.
