MOSCOW, October 27 (RIA Novosti) — During the short program and free skating competitions, Kavaguti and Smirnov earned a total of 209.16 points, leaving their competitors far behind. America’s Haven Denney and Brandon Frazier won the silver medal (183.83 points) and China’s Peng Cheng and Zhang Hao won the bronze medal (182.43 points).
In the ice dance competition, two US duos – Madison Chock and Evan Bates (171.03 points), and Maia Shibutani and Alex Shibutani (160.33 points), won the gold and silver medals, respectively. Russia’s Alexandra Stepanova and Ivan Bukin won bronze (143.87 points).
In the women’s single program, Russian Elena Radionova took first place (195.47 points), while another Russian skater, Elizaveta Tuktamysheva, finished second (189.62 points). US champion Gracie Gold managed to win the bronze medal (179.38).
In the men’s singles competition, Tatsuki Machida’s skill was unmatched – having earned a total of 269.09, the Japanese skater became the undisputed gold medal winner. Jason Brown of the US (234.17 points) and Nam Nguyen of Canada (234,24 points) won the silver and bronze medals, respectively.
The 2014 Hilton HHonors Skate America event is the first stage of the 2014-15 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating, a series of senior-level invitational competitions that consists of a total of six events.
