MOSCOW, October 27 (RIA Novosti) -The Petro Poroshenko's Bloc will call on the new Ukrainian Parliament, the Verkhovna Rada to abolish the immunity of Ukraine's senior officials, including the country's president, the head of the Petro Poroshenko Bloc Yuriy Lutsenko said.
Lutsenko said that the members of the Petro Poroshenko's Bloc voiced their intentions to cancel the immunity of the Ukrainian senior officials long before the parliamentary elections and the party stresses its readiness to vote for abolishing the immunity of the country's president, Ukrainian TSN agency said Monday.
The issue of officials' privileges had been raised repeatedly by Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko. On Saturday Poroshenko announced his plans to cancel parliamentary immunity in Ukraine in a statement on his official Twitter account.
Currently the peoples' deputies of Ukraine cannot be held criminally liable, detained or arrested without the agreement of the Ukrainian parliament, the Verkhovna Rada.
On Sunday, October 26 Ukrainians voted in parliamentary elections. With 25 percent of the ballots counted, Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk's People's Front is maintaining a narrow lead in Ukraine's parliamentary elections with 21.69 percent of the votes. The Petro Poroshenko's Bloc with 21.63 percent of the votes is a close second.
