KIEV, October 27 (RIA Novosti) - Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk's People's Front party on Monday morning continues to lead in the Ukrainian parliamentary elections with 25 percent of the ballots counted.
Currently the People's Front has garnered 21.69 percent of the popular vote, with the country's current president's Petro Poroshenko's Bloc close behind with 21.63 percent, according to the Central Election Commission.
The two leading parties are followed by the Samopomich (Self-Help) party headed by mayor of Lviv Andriy Sadovy now gaining 10.55 percent of the votes, the Opposition Bloc with 9.62 percent, Oleh Lyashko's nationalist Radical Party with 7.64 percent of the votes and Batkivshchyna (Fatherland) party headed by former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko with 5.87 percent.
The remaining parties running in the Verkhovna Rada elections have not passed the 5-percent threshold.
Early parliamentary elections were held in Ukraine Sunday. Ukrainians went to the polls to vote in 423 members of parliament — 225 of them from party lists and 198 in single-candidate constituencies. Ukraine's Central Election Commission said Monday that voter turnout in the country's parliamentary elections stands at 52.42 percent after compiling data from all 198 districts.
Arseniy Yatsenyuk's People's Front Party was founded in September 2014. The party's platform is focused on the idea of Ukraine's integration into the European Union. In addition, the party calls for economic, fiscal, judicial, and prosecution reforms.
The Petro Poroshenko Bloc is a liberal-conservative party, previously known as Solidarity party, which was set up by the current President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, in 2001. In August 2014, the party was renamed to Petro Poroshenko's Bloc, and Yuriy Lutsenko, the former Minister of Internal Affairs, was unanimously elected its head. The party's election program is aimed to implement 60 reforms and special programs that will make Ukraine eligible to apply for EU membership within six years.
