MOSCOW, October 29 (RIA Novosti) – The United Nations Security Council may vote on a draft resolution on Israel's withdrawal from the occupied Palestinian territories in November, Palestinian Ambassador to Russia Fayed Mustafa said Wednesday.
"Possibly, it could happen next month. We will finish consultations in the near future," Mustafa told reporters at a press conference held at the Rossiya Segodnya news agency.
"The draft resolution has been discussed with a number of countries. … Nine of 15 [Security Council] members have supported the resolution, they are already familiar with the project," the ambassador said without naming any specific countries.
Palestinians are seeking the creation of an independent state on the territories of the Gaza Strip and the West Bank including East Jerusalem, occupied after the 1967 war. Israel withdrew from Gaza in 2005, but is enforcing a land, air and sea blockade of the territory.
Earlier in October, Palestine worked out a UN Security Council draft resolution that calls for the end of Israel's occupation before November 2016. Russia has stated its readiness to back the resolution.
