Moscow Exhibits a Timeline of Public Transport

Russian company Uralvagonzavod presented a prototype of the high-tech tram R1 that became the "headliner" of ExpoCityTrans 2014. R1 is Russia’s first 100 percent low-floor three-section tram. It is a joint development by Uraltransmash and OKB Atom.

The organizers of the exhibition are the largest Moscow transport operators, Mosgortrans and Moscow Metro, as well as ICEC MosExpo together with the International Association of Public Transport. The exhibition space exceeds 14,500 square meters.

ExpoCityTrans 2014 is planned to demonstrate the latest technical developments, but also recent achievements in creating eco- and people-friendly conditions in urban areas.

Moscow is the world’s largest purchaser of public transport vehicles, according to mayor Sergei Sobyanin. Many of the exhibition items are expected to appear on the streets of Moscow under an ongoing program of transport modernization.

The R1 was designed in accordance with the concept of "Vehicle+Architecture=Vehitecture". According to the developer, this means an interdisciplinary combination of transport design and architecture. The inspiration came from a black Ural precious stone; R1’s black exterior reflects the city landscape.

The exhibition space exceeds 14,500 square meters. According to the organizers, more than 10,000 professionals and specialists are expected to attend the event.
