DONETSK (Rostov Region, Russia), October 31 (RIA Novosti) – The first of 100 trucks carrying Russian humanitarian aid for eastern Ukraine has begun customs procedures at the Donetsk-Izvarino border point, a RIA Novosti correspondent reported Friday.
The trucks are driving into the border area where they are being checked by Russian and Ukrainian border control and customs personnel. Observers from the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe are also present.
One hundred trucks are carrying the humanitarian aid to Luhansk and Donetsk People’s Republics (LPR and DPR), including food, medicine, and construction materials that would help local residents to prepare for the winter.
Earlier, Russian Emergencies Ministry’s planes have delivered about 100 tons of humanitarian aid for eastern Ukraine to Rostov-on-Don, where the aid will be reloaded into trucks and sent to the LPR and the DPR.
Since August, Russia has already sent three humanitarian convoys of trucks carrying food, water, power generators, medication and warm clothes to eastern Ukrainian regions, which went through a severe humanitarian crisis due to the military operation initiated by Kiev authorities in April.
