MOSCOW, October 31 (RIA Novosti) — Thursday fighting between Ukrainian government troops and pro-independence forces in Donbas has left one person dead and another six wounded, the Press Center of the South-East website reported Friday.
"At least 12 cases of the ceasefire regime's violation by the Ukrainian side were registered during the day … The situation remains tense. Ukrainian troops have stepped up military action in the areas near the line of contact," independence supporters said, the website reported.
Shelling in the city of Donetsk left one person dead and three others injured, while firefights in Horlivka and Yasynuvata left three people injured, according to pro-independence forces.
The Ukrainian government and pro-independence forces reached a ceasefire agreement on September 5 following months of clashes that killed over 3,700 people and wounded more than 9,000, according to the most recent UN estimates. On September 19, a memorandum specifying the truce was drawn up, which in particular stipulated the creation of a 30-kilometer (19-mile) buffer zone and the pullout of heavy weaponry 15 kilometers (9 miles) from the line of contact.
Both sides, however, have routinely accused each other of violating the truce.
