WASHINGTON, November 1 (RIA Novosti) — US Secretary of State John Kerry on November 9-10 will meet with the representatives from Tehran and the European Union as part of the P5+1 group negotiations with Iran on the country’s nuclear program, US State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki said Friday.
“On November 9th and 10th Secretary Kerry will travel to Muscat (Oman) to participate in a trilateral meeting with Iranian foreign minister [Javad] Zarif and EU High Representative Catherine Ashton as part of the EU coordinated P5+1 nuclear negotiations with Iran,” Psaki said on Friday during State Department press briefing.
The West and Israel have accused Iran of attempting to develop a nuclear weapon under the guise of a civilian nuclear program, while Tehran argues that its nuclear development is aimed purely at meeting the country's growing energy needs and achieving other peaceful goals.
In November 2013, during the talks held in Geneva, the P5+1 group of international mediators, comprising Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, China, and Germany agreed to reach a deal with the Tehran delegation guaranteeing the peaceful nature of the Iranian nuclear program by July 2014. The deadline for the agreement was later postponed to November 2014.
