A Bedouin man was fined for NIS 1.2 million ($ 316,000) after he shared a video of a dancing sheikh.

MOSCOW, November 1 (RIA Novosti) – A religious court has fined a young Bedouin man from Negev for NIS 1.2 million ($ 316,000) after he shared a video of a sheikh dancing at an Orthodox wedding, the Times of Israel reported citing Channel 2.

The man, identified as “A”, shared a video on Facebook in which Sheik al-Atrash is seen dancing at the wedding of Berale Yaakovovitch, a volunteer for the emergency response organization ZAKA.

After the video was posted, the Sheikh received many negative comments from across the Arab world. As the negative messages reached the sheikh, al-Atrash turned to the Haq al-Arab, the traditional Bedouin religious court and sued “A”, the man who posted the video, for dishonoring him, the Times of Israel informed.

The court, in turn, found the man guilty and ordered him to pay a NIS 1.2 million ($ 316,000) fine.

“How can it be that for a man who commits murder, the judges impose a NIS 250,000 fine, and for me the fine was like I murdered five people”, the man said in disbelief, as quoted by the Times of Israel.

“It’s a clip that was on the web for a long time so I just shared it”, the man was quoted by the Times of Israel. “Where will I come up with this money? It’s true that maybe I did a dumb thing but it’s 2014 and I’m not the only one who posted the video”.
