MOSCOW, November 1 (RIA Novosti) — An earthquake of magnitude 6.9 has been registered in the southern part of the Pacific Ocean, Fiji region, US Geological Survey (USGS) reported Saturday.
The epicenter of the earthquake was registered to be 142 kilometers (88 miles) north-east of Ndoi Island of Fiji archipelago. The depth of the seismic focus was 421.9 kilometers (262.2 miles), USGS reported.
No tsunami is expected, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.
An earthquake of magnitude six or more is considered to be powerful and likely to cause considerable damage as well as lead to a tsunami.
