MOSCOW, November 3 (RIA Novosti) — The United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has alarmed that the continued emission of greenhouse gases will have severe impacts and cause profound climate change in its latest report "Climate Change 2014".
"Continued emission of greenhouse gases will cause further warming and long-lasting changes in all components of the climate system, increasing the likelihood of severe, pervasive and irreversible impacts for people and ecosystems," the report published on IPCC website Sunday said.
The UN panel makes it clear the problem of climate change has not been alleviated and, instead, is becoming more acute.
"Surface temperature is projected to rise over the 21st century under all assessed emission scenarios. It is very likely that heat waves will occur more often and last longer, and that extreme precipitation events will become more intense and frequent in many regions. The ocean will continue to warm and acidify, and global mean sea level to rise," IPCC urged.
The UN panel called for the termination of the unrestricted use of fossil fuels by 2100.
According to IPCC, governments must restrict emissions of greenhouse gases by 40-70 percent by 2050 and by 100 percent by 2100 in order to meet the goal of preventing the global warming by more than 3.6 degrees Fahrenheit.
The United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change releases reports in line with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change with a view to stabilize greenhouse gas concentration in the atmosphere and prevent irreparable harm to the environment.
