On November 2 residents of Odessa gathered near the Trade Unions House at Kulikovo Field to commemorate the six-month anniversary of the atrocity that took place there earlier this year.
On May 2, clashes broke out in Odessa between activists who supported the idea of Ukraine adopting a federal government in which the regions would have a greater degree of power, and "Ultra" fans of the Odessa and Kharkiv football teams, who were later joined by pro-Euromaidan activists and right-wing nationalists.

The pro-Kiev radicals and members of the Right Sector trapped the anti-government protesters in the Trade Unions House and set the building on fire using Molotov cocktails. When they attempted to escape the conflagration, they were beaten by the encircling crowd.

At least 48 people were killed and over 200 were wounded in the resulting conflagration.

Local officials have accused Kiev authorities of staging a cover up, and claimed that the actual death toll is at least 116.

Similar commemorative events also took place in several European cities, such as Rome, Madrid, Berlin, and Warsaw.
