MOSCOW, November 3 (RIA Novosti) — After the elections in the Donetsk and Luhansk people's republics (DPR and LPR) all conditions are present for the implementation of the Minsk agreements by the conflicting sides of the Ukrainian crisis, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin stated Monday.
"People in Donbas have suffered, are tired of bloodshed and war, [they] want a stable and peaceful life. Now they have expressed an opinion, and everything must be done for the implementation of those agreements that were reached in Minsk on September 5 and 19. For this we have all conditions," Karasin told Russkaya Sluzhba Novostei radio.
The deputy foreign minister also added that Russia respects the will of the residents of the southeastern Ukraine. According to Karasin, it is important to work with the international partners to move to the settlement of the crisis.
The crisis in Ukraine’s eastern regions escalated when Kiev authorities launched a military operation against independence supporters in eastern Ukraine in mid-April.
This political discontent saw the Donetsk and Luhansk regions in eastern Ukraine declare themselves People’s Republics which later formed the union of Novorossiya.
The conflicting sides reached a ceasefire agreement at a September 5 meeting of the trilateral Contact Group on Ukraine in Minsk. A memorandum specifying the implementation of the ceasefire was adopted at another Contact Group meeting on September 19.
On Sunday, DPR and LPR held elections for the heads of local government and representatives of the legislative bodies.
