Professor of Political Science at the University of Kansas Burdett Loomis considers that the main reason of victory of Democratic Senator Pat Roberts was campaign that portrayed his opponent as the President's supporter.

WASHINGTON, November 5 (RIA Novosti) — Incumbent Democratic Senator Pat Roberts wins Senate midterm elections in Kansas using expensive campaign ads portraying his opponent as the President's supporter, Burdett Loomis, Professor of Political Science at the University of Kansas told RIA Novosti.

"What drove the election was $26 to $30 million dollars' worth of negative ads that defined Greg Orman as a liberal democrat in a heavily Republican state, who would caucus with the Democrats in Washington and vote for Harry Reed for majority leader and he would help the Obama agenda," Loomis explained.

According to unofficial results available on the Kansas Secretary of State's website, Roberts is leading the race for the Kansas Seat in US Senate with 53 percent, leaving independent Greg Orman behind with 43 percent.

The professor added that besides the ads, Roberts used emails, social media, and direct mail.

"That really overwhelmed Orman," Loomis said. "Orman was a good candidate but in the end he had no natural base."

On Tuesday, Americans voted in the midterm elections to elect 435 members of the House of Representatives, 36 senators, 36 governors and 46 state legislatures. Republicans are projected to maintain a majority in the US House of Representatives as well as to win control of the Senate, according to the latest reports.
