Townspeople of southeastern British city of Edenbridge is going to burn effigy of Jose Manuel Barroso as a traditional commemorating of the Guy Fawkes Night.

MOSCOW, November 5 (RIA Novosti) — The townspeople of southeastern British city of Edenbridge will burn the effigy of Jose Manuel Barroso, former President of the European Commission, to commemorate the Guy Fawkes Night, the Edenbridge Bonfire Society said Wednesday on Twitter.

"Edenbridge Bonfire Society can reveal that our Guy this year is Jose Manuel Barroso, the exiting President of the EU Commission," the tweet said.

The Edenbridge society arranges one of the most famous celebrations of annual Guy Fawkes Night, picking a contemporary figure particularly hated by the Brits. Thus, in 2012 the organization burned US cyclist Lance Armstrong, who was deprived of many sports titles for the use of doping.

In October, UK Prime Minister David Cameron broke off the EU Summit in Brussels to express his outrage with the European Commission's proposal to increase Britain's contribution to the budget by over $2.66 billion due to recalculations. Other nations, including France and Germany, on the opposite, are to receive rebates on their budget contribution.

Barroso, however, has stated that the rise in the UK contribution is correspondent to the EU rules.

Guy Fawkes Night, also known as Bonfire Night, is a British holiday marked annually on November 5. On this day in 1605, Guy Fawkes, member of English Catholics, plotting the assassination of Protestant King James I, was arrested while guarding explosives placed in the House of Lords' undercroft.
