ADDIS ABABA, November 6 (RIA Novosti) — Egypt is considering joining the Customs Union of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan, the country's Foreign Minister Sameh Hassan Shoukry told RIA Novosti in an interview.
"It [joining the Customs Union] is on the agenda. Any form thanks to which we can develop economic relations and boost our trade is welcomed. However, these processes require negotiations," Shoukry said.
He also pointed out that deepening Russia-Egypt cooperation and the possible creation of a free trade zone with the Customs Union would help the Arab country weather an economic transition period.
Following talks with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Sisi in August, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Customs Union member nations are discussing the possibility of establishing a free trade zone with Egypt.
