ADDIS-ABABA, November 6 (RIA Novosti) — Egypt supports Libyan authorities but is not taking part in any combat operations on Libyan territory, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry told RIA Novosti on Thursday.
"Egypt supports the legitimacy [of Libyan authorities], supports the institutions, including the Libyan Armed Forces, in accordance with their needs to create combat power, conduct military training," Shoukry said.
Addressing earlier media reports that Cairo is aiding Tripoli by carrying out air strikes against militant positions in the Libyan city of Benghazi, the minister stated that Egypt "is not at all involved" in any combat operations in the country.
Libya has been gripped by violence since the 2011 overthrow of its long-time leader Muammar Gaddafi. The country's authorities are battling numerous militias armed with weapons seized from state ammunition depots.
