Russian citizen Irek Hamidullin accused of terrorism to be tried in US next April, US Court ruled on Friday.

WASHINGTON, November 8 (RIA Novosti) – US Court ruled on Friday that a trial for the Russian citizen Irek Hamidullin, accused of terrorism, would be held on April 13, 2015.

“I am not guilty,” Irek Hamidullin said in front of the US Court District Judge Henry Hudson.

In November 2009, Hamidullin allegedly participated in an attack on US troops and Afghan Border Police in Afghanistan. He was indicted on twelve counts, including provision of material support to terrorists, attempt to murder a US citizen and to destroy an aircraft of the US armed forces, conspiracy to use a weapon of mass destruction and others. The charges carry a potential penalty of life imprisonment.

On Monday, Hamidullin’s case was handed over for investigation to the FBI and is currently being handled by the Counterterrorism Section of the Department of Justice ’s National Security Division.

Hamidullin was an officer of the Soviet army. According to the US Department of Justice, he joined the Taliban in 2001, and by 2009, he had a group of Taliban fighters under command.
