Caitlin Workman, spokesperson for Canada's Ministry of Foreign Affairs claimed that Canada to continue cooperating with APEC members on terrorism, stressing that that terrorism is a long-term global challenge and requires coordinated international efforts.

WASHINGTON, November 8 (RIA Novosti) – Ottawa plans to continue working together with Asian-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) members to address terrorism issues, Caitlin Workman, spokesperson for Canada's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has told RIA Novosti.

"Canada works multilaterally in a number of multilateral forums, including APEC, to address the global threat of terrorism, ensuring that Canadian interests and values are reflected internationally and enhancing the security of Canadians at home and abroad," Workman said Friday.

The spokesperson stressed that terrorism is a long-term global challenge, and requires coordinated international efforts.

"It [terrorism threat] demands a consistent, comprehensive and coordinated international response based on common goals, values and institutions," Workman explained, stressing that Canada is not immune to terrorism, which continues to threaten the country and its citizens.

"We remain unwavering in our commitment to a safe and secure Canada," she asserted. "We will continue to take all appropriate action to counter terrorist threats to Canada, its citizens and its interests around the world."

In late October the Canadian government proposed legislation that would enable its intelligence service to conduct terrorism investigations abroad. The amendments were introduced following recent killings in Ottawa and Quebec.

On October 22, a gunman shot dead a soldier guarding the National War Memorial in Ottawa. The shooter then proceeded to Parliament Hill's Center Block, where he was killed in a shootout with a policeman. Two days prior to the incident, in Quebec, another radicalized Canadian hit two soldiers with his car, killing one and injuring the other.
