MOSCOW, November 8 (RIA Novosti) — The proposal for the NATO-Russia Council (NRC) could help resolve the crisis, if NATO leaders were not behind the crisis, Head of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Russian State Duma Aleksei Pushkov said Saturday.
"Genscher [Hans-Dietrich Genscher, former German Foreign Minister] thinks that the NATO-Russia Council could help resolve the crisis. That's right only if NATO leaders were not behind the very crisis," Pushkov wrote on his Twitter account.
In an earlier interview with Deutsche Welle, Genscher called for the revival of the NATO-Russia Council, which he noted was established for times marred by crisis.
Relations between Russia and the West have gone downhill on account of the situation in Ukraine, where a profound political crisis started this February. The West denounced Crimea's reunification with Russia, accusing Russia of redrawing borders. Moscow, however, reminded that the reunification was supported by 97 percent of Crimea's population.
