MANAMA, November 10 (RIA Novosti) — The participants of a one-day conference in Bahrain on the fight against the financing of terrorism adopted on Sunday a declaration in which they pledged to implement all international directives to tackle the issue.
Spokesperson for Bahrain’s Foreign Ministry Nasser Al-Balushi said after the close of the conference that it was a technical meeting, during which the participants exchanged best practices in the fight against the financing of terrorist groups. He also added that the declaration adopted acknowledges the necessity for full participation and cooperation of all the participating states in a bid to see to the issue.
"At first, the event was planned to be a high-level meeting, but its format was later updated to expert-preparatory for a potential ministerial meeting," Anna Nazarova, an official from the Russian Foreign Ministry, told RIA Novosti. At the conference, Nazarova made a report on a project by Russia to intercept illegal financial flows that come from the Afghan drugs turnover.
The conference took place Sunday in Bahrain's capital Manama. Representatives from 40 countries as well as different international and regional organizations attended the gathering.
