VLADIVOSTOK, November 10 (RIA Novosti) — Trade turnover between Japan and Russia's Sakhalin Region has almost doubled in the recent years, the regional government announced Monday.
"In the last five years Sakhalin Region's turnover with Japan has increased by 1.8 times. In the first half of 2014 the bilateral external turnover totaled at $3.7 billion and rose by 0.2 percent in comparison to 2013," the regional government's statement said.
The spheres of the closest partnership are construction, fish-processing industry, health care, education, culture, sport and tourism. In the fishing industry Japanese partners work together with Sakhalin company "Tunaycha".
Moreover, one of the Japanese companies is currently considering the possibility to buy wood in Sakhalin Region.
