MOSCOW, November 11 (RIA Novosti), Daria Chernyshova — The five-year development plan to deepen ties between Russia and Algeria is ambitious but powerful in bringing the two countries together in different spheres, including business-to-business cooperation, Algerian Delegate Minister for Maghreb and African Affairs Abdelkader Messahel told RIA Novosti on Tuesday.
“We have a quite ambitious development program which includes a five-year plan which stipulates deepening our relations in several areas,” Messahel said, adding that the areas include metallurgy, infrastructure, roads, railroads and construction among others.
“All those are the possibilities for our future cooperation,” Messahel told RIA Novosti. “And in all these spheres Russian enterprises have their place.”
Messahel pointed out that the intergovernmental commission on trade-economic and scientific-technical cooperation has been instrumental in finding more areas for cooperation, especially in business-to-business contacts.
“Thus there are possibilities to explore what the Russian market has,” he said.
Algeria is one of Russia’s largest economic partners in Africa, and in 2013 trade turnover between the two countries totaled $1.6 billion.
In September, Russia and Algeria signed an intergovernmental agreement to cooperate in nuclear energy, paving the way for the possible construction of a nuclear power plant (NPP) in the North African country.
