MOSCOW, November 12 (RIA Novosti) — Russian President's Special Representative for Africa and the Middle East Mikhail Bogdanov and British Ambassador in Moscow Timothy Barrow have discussed the situation in Iraq and Syria, Russian Foreign Ministry said in a Wednesday statement.
"An exchange of opinions on relevant development issues in the Middle East with the emphasis on the situation in Yemen, Iraq, and Syria took place," the statement said.
The ministry said that the British diplomat initiated of the meeting.
The United Kingdom is one of about 60 nations, that have joined the US-led coalition in Iraq and Syria to fight the Islamic State (IS) extremist group. In June the IS proclaimed an Islamic caliphate on the territories it seized across the two countries.
Russia has said it would stand aside from any coalitions established bypassing the UN Security Council.
