MOSCOW, November 13 (Sputnik) – The family of Michael Brown, an African-American teenager shot dead in the US city of Ferguson, Missouri in August, has urged police and protesters to restrain from violence once a grand jury rules in the case, the lawyer for the family said Thursday.
"The Brown family sends a passionate plea this morning to law enforcement and to those that support justice for Mike Brown Jr. to allow cooler heads to prevail in times of adversity," attorney Anthony Gray said at a news conference in front of a St. Louis County courthouse in Clayton.
The grand jury is due to decide whether or not to indict Darren Wilson, a white officer who shot the 18-year-old Brown on August 9. It was earlier reported that local police is preparing for protests expected to take place if Wilson is not indicted.
Two months following the Brown's death, 18-year-old African-American Vonderrit Myers was shot dead by an off-duty white police officer in the Shaw neighborhood in St. Louis County. Thousands of protesters took to the streets in Ferguson and St. Louis to rally against what they view as a series of racially motivated shootings of African-Americans by white police officers in the region.
