MOSCOW, November 14 (Sputnik) – An investigation into a “possible homicide” was launched by Scotland Yard officers tasked with reviewing allegations of a group of influential pedophiles, The Independent reports.
The investigation was dubbed Operation Midland.
Detectives working on Operation Fairbank – a probe into a historic alleged pedophile ring that had ties to the British government – became aware of the claims recently. “Our inquiries into this over subsequent weeks have revealed further information regarding possible homicide. Based on our current knowledge, this is the first time that this specific information has been passed to the Met,” said a spokesperson, according to The Guardian.
A statement issued by Scotland Yard said that at such an early stage of the inquiry, “it is not appropriate to issue appeals or reveal more information,” the BBC reports.
Operation Fairbank was originally initiated after MP Tom Watson, using parliamentary privilege, asserted that a body of evidence that was used to convict Peter Righton of importing child pornography, included “clear intelligence” of such a group of pedophiles.
