MOSCOW, November 16 (Sputnik) – The opening of One World Trade Center, the tallest skyscraper in New York City and the main building of the new business complex rebuilt after 9/11 terrorist attacks, is considered by most New York residents as symbol of “return to normal life”, AFP reports.
The skyscraper is the main piece of the site, built on the remains of the Twin Towers, destroyed on September 11, 2001 by Al-Qaeda-affiliated hijackers. Its opening is seen as a symbol of return to normality and revitalization of Lower Manhattan, which was practically deserted after the tragedy
"This is a sign of the revitalization of downtown New York city," said Patrick Foye, the owner of the building and the World Trade Center site, stressing that people will again crowd the nearby streets, go shopping and visit restaurants. The long-awaited rebirth of the business center has seen numerous delays due to design alterations, and endured heated political arguments. The building is set to become a tourist attraction as it will serve as a landmark in New York’s Manhattan, boasting an observatory on the 100th, 101st and 102nd floors, opening by spring 2015.
The big opening day took place on November, 3 and the first company to move in was Condé Nast publishing house. Among other future tenants are reported to be social networking firm Hi5, cultural exchange company — the China Center and advertising agency Kids Creative, according to Business Insider.
