Twelve Bosnian Serbs have been arrested near Prijedor, the western Bosnian town, having been accused of war crimes. During the war of 1992-95 almost 100,000 were killed in Serbia. One of the largest mass burials reportedly contains remains of 1,000 war victims and was discovered in Prijedor region only last year.

MOSCOW, November 17 (Sputnik), Ekaterina Blinova — Twelve Bosnian Serbs have been arrested near the western town of Prijedor, Bosnia, accused of committing crimes against humanity.

"Bosnian police on Monday arrested 12 Bosnian Serbs suspected of crimes against humanity over an attack early in the country's 1992-95 war in which 150 Muslim Bosniaks, including women and children, were killed and their bodies dumped in mass graves," Reuters reported.

According to the media source, the war of 1992-95 resulted in the deaths of about 100,000 on Bosnia. Most of them were Bosnian nationals, Reuters notes.

The prosecutor office stated that the twelve Bosnian Serbs have been charged "with murders, torture, rapes, as well as with looting and destroying the property of Bosniaks in the village of Zecovi as part of a bid to drive the Bosniaks from the village."

"The suspects are subject of an investigation into murders of 29 women and children from Zecovi, whose bodies were thrown into a mass grave the authorities are still searching," the statement reads.

Last year more than 150 war victims buried in a mass grave were discovered near Prijedor. However, it is believed that the grave contains the remains of around 1,000 people, killed in the war. It is one of the largest mass burial locations in Bosnia.

According to Reuters, international arrest warrants will be issued against three war criminal suspects: two of them are located outside Bosnia, while the third has been serving a term in the state's local prison.

It is worth mentioning that 16 Bosnian Serbs have been condemned to 230 years in prison, charged with war crimes committed in the Prijedor region, Reuters emphasizes.
