KIEV, November 17 (Sputnik) — Ukraine's Luhansk authorities estimate the overall damage, caused by an armed conflict between Kiev's forces and independence supporters of Donbas, at about $36 million, the head of the Luhansk Regional State Administration, Gennady Moskal said Monday.
"The total direct damage caused by the military actions currently stands at 553 million hryvnias [$36 million]. This includes the damage, caused to the municipal property, infrastructure and the residents' belongings," Moskal said as quoted by the regional administration's press service.
In October Ukrainian authorities stated that it will take "billions of dollars" to rebuild the war-torn Donbas region.
In April, Ukrainian authorities launched a military operation in the country's southeast, where independence supporters refused to recognize the new government which ceased power in Kiev following a coup in February.
On September 5, the warring sides agreed to a ceasefire.
According to the latest figures by the United Nations, the Ukrainian conflict has claimed more than 4,000 lives.
