MOSCOW, November 18 (Sputnik) – The use of incendiary weapons, cluster munitions and prohibited weapons in eastern Ukraine needs to be thoroughly investigated, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Tuesday.
"This process… will make a practical contribution into restoration of justice and lawfulness in Ukraine," the ministry said, adding that it would be useful for the process of national reconciliation as well.
The international community, including respected human rights organizations and groups, should push for such an investigation, the ministry said.
Earlier on Tuesday, Russian Foreign Ministry's human rights ombudsman Konstantin Dolgov also stressed the need for a proper investigation into the usage of incendiary devices in the Ukrainian conflict. Dolgov also noted that the Russian Investigative Committee was still investigating cases of using forbidden methods and means of war in Ukraine.
On November 10, Human Rights Watch (HRW) released a report on the use of incendiary munitions in Ukraine, though the watchdog did not specify which side of the conflict used the weapons. On October 20, HRW published another report saying that in early October cluster munitions were used in Donetsk by the Ukrainian government forces.
