MOSCOW, November 18 (Sputnik) — The Da Vinci robotic surgical system helped to restore myocardial perfusion on a beating heart, which was the first surgery of this kind in Moscow, Moscow City Health Department announced Tuesday.
"Usage of the Da Vinci robotic surgical system allowed to prevent traumatic surgical access (open heart surgery with breast opening) and to perform vascular bypass surgery on the beating heart," the department stated.
Head of the Moscow City Health Department Alexei Khripun told RIA Novosti that such surgery can be performed only in two Russian public medical institutions – at the Botkin public clinical hospital in Moscow and Meshalkin health center in Novosibirsk. The surgery in point was carried out at the Botkin public clinical hospital.
Hospitals No. 31 and 50 in Moscow, as well as the Institute of gastroenterology, also have one Da Vinci system each.
The "Da Vinci robot" is a robotic surgical system, produced by the American company Intuitive Surgical. By using a minimally invasive approach, it genuinely facilitates complex surgery, especially in cardiology and gynecology. More than 350,000 surgeries using the Da Vinci robot are conducted worldwide every year.
