MOSCOW, November 19 (Sputnik) – The Russian national football team beat Hungary 2-1 in a friendly match on 18 November, lenta.ru reported on Wednesday.
Russia’s center-back Sergei Ignashevich opened the scoring in the fifth minute, heading in a corner from Alexander Samedov, with the Hungary defence standing aside and allowing Ignashevich a free header.
Alexander Kerzhakov scored a second after a through pass from Alan Dzagoev in the 78th minute, according to liferesult.ru.
Hungary scored seven minutes later when Nemanja Nikolic fired past Yuri Lodygin into the bottom corner.
Russia’s victory relieved the pressure on its coach Fabio Capello who has been sharply criticized by Russian media for a series of lackluster performances and the poor form of the players.
"I am satisfied with the result and with my team's performance," said Capello, cited by Reuters.
The win over Hungary is Russia’s final game in 2014. However, it raises hopes for a successful start of the next season in the EURO qualifying match between Russian and Montenegro, which will take place in March 2015.
