WASHINGTON, November 20 (Sputnik) — US Republican Ed Royce who will continue serving as Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee in the new Congress, names Russia among his country's serious threats, according to the committee's press release.
"I am honored that my colleagues have selected me to continue serving as Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee in the 114th Congress," Royce said in the release on Wednesday. "Over the last two years, our nation has faced continuous, serious threats from across the globe, including ISIL [Islamic State], Russia and North Korea," he added.
The US Representative said that most of these threats have been met "with a confused and often passive Obama Administration foreign policy," and outlined the work plans of the committee.
"The Committee will continue its efforts to stop Iran's march toward nuclear weapons, which threatens to undermine fundamentally the security of us and our critical allies," Royce explained. "The Committee will also continue to promote U.S. economic engagement worldwide, particularly in Asia, where economies are continually growing."
Royce has served on the Committee since entering the House of Representatives in 1993, and as Chairman since 2013.
Royce was re-elected to represent California's 39th Congressional District at the midterm elections on November 2, where Republicans won the majority of seats both in the House and the Senate. The session of the new Congress will begin in January.
