MOSCOW, November 21 (Sputnik) – An explosion at an Echo Platform in the Gulf of Mexico belonging to Fieldwood Energy, an oil and gas operator, has killed one person and injured three others, the US Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement says in a statement on its official website.
“The operator has reported that there is one fatality and three others are being treated at an onshore medical facility as a result of the incident,” reads the statement.
The explosion occurred on Thursday, some 19 km off the coast of New Orleans.
"The Echo Platform was not in production at the time of the incident. The facility damage was limited to the explosion area and there was no pollution reported," the statement reads.
Fieldwood had few details about the accident.
"This was an isolated incident that has been fully contained," the company said.
The US Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement says it is coordinating with the US Coast Guard during the response and will investigate the incident.
