MOSCOW, November 23 (Sputnik) — The Prime Minister of South Korea Chung Hong-won promised to block any possibility of provocations by North Korea, as Seoul commemorates the anniversary of shelling Yeonpyeong Island on Sunday.
"The government and the military will preemptively block the possibility of North Korea's provocations through a water-tight defense posture, and if there is a provocation, we will sternly react to it," Chung Hong-won said at a ceremony marking the anniversary of the attack on Yeonpyeong Island, as quoted by South Korean Yonhap agency.
On November 23, 2010, Yeonpyeong Island, South Korea, was shelled by the North Korean forces in response to South Korean military exercises. According to the United Nations, the attack was one of the most serious incidents since the end of the Korean War in 1953.
