MOSCOW, November 23 (Sputnik) — Ghoncheh Ghavami, a woman of British-Iranian origin, has been released on bail after having being taken under arrest this June in Iran for attempting to watch a volleyball game, the BBC reported Sunday.
Ghavami was arrested along with other women. They were all later released, though Ghavami was retaken into custody and sent to trial. Referring to reports from Iran, the BBC reported that Ghavami was charged for participation in opposition rallies out of Iran, rather than attempts to watch the volleyball game between Iran and Italy.
During detention, Ghavami went on a hunger strike, with a petition having been signed by hundreds of thousands of people demanding her release.
According to the broadcaster, prosecutors in Iran have accused Ghavami of being associated with the opposition.
