MOSCOW, November 23 (Sputnik) — Around 300 lower-court judges in India are suspected of spending government funds on obtaining electronic gadgets, The Times of India reported Sunday.
"All judges were initially under probe but the panel has now zeroed in on roughly 300 officers against whom preliminary discrepancies have been found. The focus is on correctness of the utilization certificate given by them to HC [High Court] relating to the purchases," the newspaper quoted an unnamed official source as saying.
According to the newspaper, the judges purchased computers and laptops. However, the source the newspaper talked to said it is possible TVs or home theaters might also have been bought in place of computers.
The violation was revealed after a regular check was conducted by court officials, according to the newspaper.
The Times of India said a high-ranking committee has been set up to investigate the expenditure of the state funds by the lower-court judges.
