MOSCOW, November 25 (Sputnik) — Ukrainian nationalists are failing to safeguard the country's real interests and are betraying the nation, a member of France's right-wing Front National party told Sputnik news agency Tuesday.
The member of the French nationalist party also added that the Ukrainian nationalism is alarming.
"There is good nationalism, which is not aggressive, and bad, which is aggressive… If we are talking about these movements [in Ukraine], like Pravy Sektor [Right Sector] and all these movements, they are dangerous. They are fascist movements. They are very anti-Russian, they are racist movements," Chauprade stated.
Russia has repeatedly pointed out that outbursts of aggressive nationalism and neo-Nazism in Ukraine have become widespread following the coup in February.
The far-right Ukrainian National Assembly-Ukrainian People's Self-Defense and the Right Sector, its political spin-off, were banned from conducting activities in Russia by the Russian Supreme Court earlier in November. The Russian court also outlawed a Ukrainian right radical group called Stepan Bandera's Tryzub (Trident), which is named after a wartime Nazi collaborator responsible for mass murders in Ukraine. The banned groups took part in the first Euromaidan protests in November 2013.
Ukrainian nationalists advocate distancing Ukraine from relations with Russia in favor of partnership with the European Union and NATO.
