MOSCOW, November 26 (Sputnik) — Information on the US military support to Ukraine, disclosed by the Ukrainian hacker group Cyber-Berkut, has been available to the public, spokesperson for the US Embassy in Moscow told RIA Novosti Wednesday.
"We have seen reports that hackers allegedly obtained documents from a United States Government mobile device. The information contained in the allegedly hacked documents is publicly available," William Stevens stated.
On Tuesday, Cyber-Berkut published documents, showing, in particular, that the Ukrainian military are receiving hundreds of thousands of dollars from Washington. The group also said the funds were being used by officers for their personal needs.
According to the hackers, the information was intercepted during US Vice President Joe Biden’s recent visit to Ukraine. The hackers said they had accessed confidential State Department documents with the help of a mobile device, belonging to a US delegation member.
"We have announced many times that the United States has provided over $118 million in equipment and training to Ukraine's security forces since the beginning of the conflict," added Stevens.
The spokesperson also said that "the funding is intended to provide items such as radars, body armors, rations, de-mining equipment, first aid kits, and related items."
"Our security assistance to Ukraine is a matter of public record and transparent for all to see," Stevens concluded.
Meanwhile, the documents, revealed by Cyber-Berkut indicate that Ukraine plans to obtain "400 units of sniper rifles, 2,000 units of assault rifles, 720 hand grenade launchers, nearly 200 mortars and more than 70,000 shells for them, 150 stingers and 420 anti-tank missiles."
The armed conflict in Ukraine started this April when the authorities mounted a military attack against the people in the country’s southeast, refusing to accept the legitimacy of the coup-placed government.
