KIEV, November 27 (Sputnik) – Five political factions have created a coalition in Ukraine's parliament and have assumed the majority, newly-elected head of the parliament's presidium Volodymyr Hroisman said Thursday.
"Our coalition created in the Ukrainian pro-European parliament has an absolute coalition majority of 302 lawmakers," Hroisman said during a parliament session.
According to the Ukrainian Constitution, more than 300 lawmakers are required to form a house majority.
Early parliamentary elections in Ukraine took place on October 26. Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko's party, the Petro Poroshenko Bloc, won a total of 132 seats, with People's Front, Samopomich, Radical Party, Batkivshchyna and the Opposition Bloc gaining 82, 32, 22, 17 and 27 seats respectively.
On November 21, representatives of five Ukrainian parliamentary parties signed a draft agreement on the creation of a pro-European coalition. The coalition was later called "European Ukraine". The Opposition Bloc, standing against the military operation in the country's South-East, did not become part of the coalition due to "considerable political disagreements".
